We demonstrate how surface water particles would move if launched on April 21, but near the Loop Current (where some particles have started to enter on May 5).The simulation highlights the major pathways associated with Loop Current variability during this period. This illustrates the dominant circulation and IS NOT AN OIL SPILL PREDICTION.

The loop Current enters the Straits of Florida at a "southern" position (near Cuba), bending cyclonically to feed the Florida Current. Particles move quickly southward, approaching the West Florida Shelf at about 25.5N. Near the cyclonic bend some particles are entrained in anticyclonic circulation associated with the Loop Current core.
